Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT YOU TALKING ‘BOUT, SPLASH?

In 2013, I started Splash Of Paprika as a creative outlet, somewhere to write and share photos from time to time. I write about creating a garden and small urban farm on our 0.14-acre lot, books, sign language, songs, and occasionally some personal things, too.

I reserve the right to edit or remove content from Splash Of Paprika at any time without notice. Which’ll probably happen often!

WHEN?

Once in a while–despite knowing that I have physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual limitations due to family responsibilities in addition to mental illness–I succumb to the delusion that I am at a time of life where I can post more regularly, maybe even daily, however life soon shows me differently. Slow blogging works for me (see Todd Sieling’s manifesto here, and Design for Mankind’s thoughts here), I will be here when I can.

AAAND…WHAT IN THE WORLD IS A BALTERER?

balterer is one who dances artlessly, without particular skill or grace, but with extreme joy. Case in point: Elaine Benes, Queen Of Balterers.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

Sharing information is what I do best (and what I love to do, as my family, friends, and former workmates know all too well) so I <3 social media.

But, and a big BUT(T) here (haha) once I get looped into sharing links, quotes, liking, retweeting, and whatnot, I start getting a bit manic and a little crabby IRL if I’m disconnected too long and spend way too much time checking and rechecking for updates.

And then while whirling through the networks, I start feeling suffocated by being exposed to so many people and create this pressure to perform in my mind and it all collapses and I dive for cover. And its radio silence. Again. Not a super productive use of my time or anyone else’s. And where’s the joy?

So, for this moment, I’m keeping Twitter and Facebook to pretty much only automated posts notifications and I’ll update Instagram and Pinterest once in a while. Here’s to peace, quiet, and creation. (See John Saddington’s essay on the subject here. #lifegoals) I’m sure I’ll see you out there on a crazy day though…

tl;dr? This is my mind on social media:=。:.゚٩(๑>◡<๑)۶:.。+゚ Not good.

AND COMMENTING?

1) Please see my above thoughts on social media, 2), Because of living with frequent PTSD relapses and other issues, my mind is not often able to handle much more than surviving and sharing on here from time to time. I will open comments on longer posts during the times I am strong enough to resurface and chat.

Much love and appreciation to anyone who reads these scribbles. ٩(๑•◡-๑)۶ⒽⓤⒼ❤
